Pharmag PSM-8 Shear Double Ribbon Mixer

The Pharma Test / Pharmag PSM-8 Shear Double Ribbon Blender Attachment is designed for pharmaceutical formulation research and development (R&D), gastronomic laboratories, and pilot plants. This module seamlessly interfaces with P-UAM universal motor drives and is specifically designed for the efficient mixing of dry powders, wet powders, granules, and lightweight pastes and creams (solid/solid & solid/liquid). Depending on the material characteristics, it can be applied to specific wet granulation processes, providing highly repeatable and efficient shear recombination mixtures that fully comply with the stringent requirements of cGMP, GLP, FDA, and the International Pharmacopoeia for pilot processes.


I. Equipped with patented precision twin sets of ribbon blades, rotating at different speeds to generate powerful axial and radial shearing, stretching, folding, and recombination complex motions. Material continuously circulates and convects between the blades, bottom saddle, and tank walls, significantly shortening mixing time and improving batch mixing uniformity.


II. Suitable for uniform mixing of dry powders (solid/solid), wet powders, suspensions, slurries, light ointments and creams (solid/liquid); it can also be used in some wet granulation pilot processes based on the physical properties of the powder, providing diverse and flexible process development solutions.


III. It can be directly and quickly locked onto the P-UAM universal motor drive unit (Directly attached to UAM), which provides stepless precise speed control over a wide range of 50 – 450 rpm, ensuring smooth and stable operation and significantly saving laboratory workspace and equipment purchase costs.


IV. Equipped with a top cover reed relay safety system, it can only be activated when the safety cover is fully closed, and the power is immediately cut off when the cover is opened, fully ensuring the safety of operators; the high-transparency acrylic (Plexiglas) top cover design allows for clear observation of material flow and process status in real time during the mixing process.


V. Features a total volume of 5.0 L and an operating capacity of up to 4.0 L (depending on material characteristics and process parameters), with a standard adjustable metal support base. Widely applicable to diverse industries such as pharmaceuticals, traditional Chinese medicine/alternative therapies, fine chemicals, food and agriculture, cement and ceramics, cosmetics and cleaning agents, and paints and pigments.


VI. All material contact parts of the machine are made of pharmaceutical and food-grade corrosion-resistant and hygienic materials, with smooth surfaces and no dead corners, supporting GMP-compliant sterilization and cleaning validity standards.

    • Twin Set of Differential Speed Ribbon Blades: Employing a sophisticated double-helical ribbon structure, the inner and outer double-layer blades operate at different relative speeds, generating powerful axial and radial shear convection. This enables the material to rapidly tumble, stretch, fold, and recombine within the tank, completely eliminating mixing dead zones.

  • High safety and process visualization design (Visual Process Control & Reed Relay Safety System)

    • Reed Relay Safety System: The top cover has a built-in highly sensitive reed-sensing safety switch. The machine can only be started and operated when the safety cover is completely closed. If the top cover is opened during operation, the machine will be automatically stopped immediately to ensure the safety of the operator.

    • High-transparency acrylic viewing cover: Provides 100% clear real-time internal process visibility, allowing R&D personnel to monitor powder flow, wetting progress, and mixing uniformity changes throughout the process.
