Pharmag BM-5 Stainless Steel Ball Mill

The Pharmag BM-5 Ball Mill Attachment is the core grinding unit in Pharmag's modular pilot plant system, designed for the ultrafine grinding and homogenization of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), excipients, and various fine materials. It operates by interfacing with the P-UAM power unit via a P-UGD universal gearbox, providing low-speed, high-torque, and stable tumbling grinding power.


I. It adopts the tumbling milling principle, which uses the rotation of the grinding tank to drive the grinding balls to rise to the top and then fall naturally. Combining gravity impact, crushing and high-frequency shearing force, it can quickly refine coarse particles, crystals and hard materials, showing excellent grinding efficiency and reproducibility.


II. Fully compatible with both dry and wet processes: Supports "solid/solid" dry milling and "solid/liquid" wet milling and mixing, and can handle a wide range of crystalline pharmaceutical raw materials, powders, pellets, slugs, tablets, and even high-viscosity slurries and wet powders.


III. The total capacity of the grinding tank is 5.0 liters, and the maximum operating load can reach 2.0 liters (depending on the physical properties of the material and process parameters), providing ample space for the material and grinding balls to tumble and fall; under precise speed control of 5 to 45 RPM, it ensures high efficiency during high-load operation and prevents the material from overheating.


IV. The body and contact materials are all precision-manufactured using pharmaceutical-grade AISI 316/304 stainless steel. The internal surface is mirror-polished for hygiene, with no dead corners or gaps. It is equipped with a highly airtight pharmaceutical-grade sealing cap to prevent dust leakage and solvent evaporation. The front end has a standardized quick-release interface, which can be assembled and disassembled by hand without tools in seconds, fully complying with cGMP, FDA and GLP cleaning and effectiveness regulations.

    • Multi-Ball Impact & Shearing Action: The can is equipped with pharmaceutical-grade stainless steel balls of different diameters (Ø10 ~ 30 mm). During the rotation process, free fall collision and rolling friction are generated, which can efficiently crush hard crystals, coarse particles and Chinese herbal medicine materials.

    • Enhanced API Dissolution & Bioavailability: It can break down microparticles to micron-level fineness in a short time, significantly reducing particle size distribution and effectively improving the dissolution rate of poorly soluble drugs (BCS Class II/IV).

    • Dry Grinding & Dust-Free Design: Equipped with a highly airtight dustproof cover, it can completely prevent dust from escaping during dry grinding, ensuring that operators are protected from exposure to highly active pharmaceutical ingredients (HPAPI).

    • Wet Grinding & Solvent Resistance: It has excellent resistance to chemical solvents and acid and alkali sealing properties. Solvents or dispersion media can be directly added for wet grinding and homogenization, achieving zero dripping and no bubble residue.
